Personal data in public sources
Initial version — under legal reviewVersion of 2026-09-26
Some official sources behind lakebrasil publish personal data of a public nature. This page explains what we do with it and how anyone can exercise their rights.
What personal data appears
- Company partners and directors, as published by Brazil's Federal Revenue Service in the open CNPJ data.
- Candidates and elected officials, as published by the Superior Electoral Court (TSE).
- Members of Congress and authors of bills, votes and budget amendments, as published by the Chamber of Deputies and the Transparency Portal.
- Parliamentary expense allowance (CEAP) spending by deputies and senators and their suppliers, as published by the Chamber and the Senate.
- Proponents of cultural projects (Rouanet Law/SALIC), as published by the Ministry of Culture.
- People fined or embargoed by IBAMA, payments to creditors recorded by the state Audit Courts, workplace accident reports (INSS) and the Brazilian Aeronautical Registry (ANAC), as published by those agencies.
- Attributes of mayors and municipal officials (party, sex, age, schooling, race/colour), as published by IBGE in the Municipal Basic Information Survey (MUNIC).
This information was made public by law or by the agencies themselves, for public transparency.
Legal basis
We process this data on the basis of legitimate interest (LGPD, art. 7, IX) in giving organized access to public data, respecting the purpose, good faith and public interest that justified its publication (LGPD, art. 7, §§ 3 and 4).
Minimization
- The lake mostly holds aggregates — by municipality, CNAE, indicator or year — and no individual data about beneficiaries of social programs.
- CPFs that sources publish masked stay masked; we never try to unmask them or cross-reference them to identify people.
- Names of public officials appear only where the official source itself publishes them, in the context in which they were published (for example, the author of an amendment).
- The Acceptable Use Policy forbids using the service to profile, watch or re-identify people.
Restricted storage of the original files
When a source publishes data about identifiable individuals — such as people fined by IBAMA, suppliers in the parliamentary expense allowance, Rouanet Law proponents, creditors recorded by the Audit Courts, workplace accident reports, aircraft owners and the personal attributes of municipal officials in MUNIC — the service only offers aggregated totals (by municipality, year or category).
- The original files from those sources are kept in a restricted, encrypted area on AWS in São Paulo, accessible only to administrators, with every access logged.
- They are used to reprocess and audit the aggregates and are never exposed by the service or any API.
- They are kept for up to 12 months and then deleted.
- Personal attributes of municipal officials (including race/colour, sensitive data under LGPD art. 5, II) stay in that restricted area and are not served; the service only offers the aggregated profile by state, with small counts suppressed.
